FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Helpful answers, at a glance.

Q

How long should I wear my aligners each day?

Wear your aligners for 20–22 hours per day. Remove them only when eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing or flossing.

Q

How should I insert and remove my aligners?

Use your fingers to place and remove your aligners gently. Do not bite them into place unless your doctor has specifically guided you to do so.

Q

What are chewies, and how should I use them?

Use chewies each time you insert your aligners. Bite from one side to the other so the trays are fully seated—proper seating supports the planned tooth movement.

Q

When should I change to the next set?

Change aligners according to your doctor’s instructions, usually every 1–2 weeks. Do not switch early unless your doctor advises it.

Q

What should I do after meals?

Brush and floss after every meal before putting your aligners back in. This helps reduce the risk of cavities, staining, and trapped food.

Q

How should I clean my aligners?

Clean them daily with a soft toothbrush and mild, clear soap, then rinse with lukewarm water. Avoid hot water because it may distort the aligners.

Q

Can I eat or drink while wearing aligners?

Remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water.

Q

Will aligners affect my speech?

You may notice a slight lisp at first. This is normal and usually goes away within 1–3 days.

Q

What if my aligner is lost or broken?

If lost or broken, contact your orthodontist right away. Do not skip to the next aligner unless instructed.

Q

Is it normal to have discomfort?

Mild pressure or soreness is normal when changing aligners. It means your aligners are working.

Q

Why are attachments on my teeth?

Attachments help the aligners grip your teeth and guide movement. They are safe and essential for treatment.

Q

Why is following the wear schedule so important?

Wearing your aligners as instructed is critical for achieving the best possible result and avoiding unnecessary treatment delays.

Q

When should I contact my doctor?

Contact your doctor if an aligner does not fit properly, if you lose or damage a tray, or if you experience significant or persistent pain.
